Morag Bramley

I saw a book pattern in a book which was titled “Books Unbound” by Michael Jacobs.  This helped me to get started.  Put a coloured piece of thin A4 card horizontally on your board and draw two vertical lines in the centre 1/5" apart.  Turn the card vertically and fold up the bottom edge to the first line you have drawn and fold that fold up to the same line but be careful not to go over it.  Turn the card round by 90 degrees and repeat the same again.  Open up folds and turn the card horizontally again and fold it in half from the top to the bottom.  Open the card out again.  Coming from the left side to the first vertical fold cut along the central line just before the first fold to the third fold with a craft knife.  Do the same at the right side of the paper.  Fold the unit in half again horizontally, stand upright and then make three double pages at the left side and three double pages at the right side.

Now attach the back to a cover of another colour which will be much longer so that it can wrap round the book and about 2" taller.  Then make a card sleeve of another colour to slip over the whole thing and to take up the middle third of the cover.  Stick the sleeve to itself so that it can easily be slipped on and off the unit.

Decorate the sleeve as you wish.  There will be fourteen surfaces in the book for you to write on.
