Gillian Davey "A Midsummer Night's Dream" Act 2 Scene 1 Oberon Having been
intrigued by pop-up books and their near cousin, the tunnel book, for as
long as I can remember I at last decided it was high time I had a go at
creating one of my own. As a consequence
I've learned much during the making of this little book though have to admit
that most of this has come from my mistakes and a failure to double check
each new step in the process before pressing ahead. I occasionally
incorporate pressed flowers with my calligraphy, trying to avoid creating
anything too twee and thought of using some of these, albeit not the ones
quoted in the text, while first working my way through the very clear
instructions on page sixty three of Alisa Golden's 'Creating Handmade
Books'. Finding an
appropriate quotation came afterwards. Not wanting
anything too strident by way of colour, I chose shades of green and lavender
for the book using Fabriano Roma and Canson Ingres paper with gouache for
the text. Must see if I can be a bit more ambitious second time round.
