Gaelic proverbs I like the idea of
using two languages and scripts. I
also like to add a drawing or two. I’ve
sewn the codex to a concertina hoping to separate the proverbs a little more
than would otherwise have been the case. The paper used is
Rowney Ingres. I chose it for
its appearance but it was a mistake because the fibres kept snagging in the
nib. The cover paper is
hand-made ‘soft silk’. Unfortunately
a lot of the softness is lost when stuck to card (!) and it is a little
thick when it comes to folding down corners. The proverbs are
from ‘A Little Book of Gaelic Proverbs’ compiled by WA & HR Ross but
they are also freely available on the Internet.
The techniques came from two books – ‘Creating Handmade Books’
by Alisa Golden and ‘Cover to Cover’ by Shereen La Plantz I really enjoy other people’s contributions to the swaps and I hope you enjoy mine.
